2’s March 2010 Newsletter
March is another action packed month at Play School. In the 2’s class three themes dominate the month: we will study children’s author Dr. Seuss and his zany books, learn about springtime weather and continue our study of famous artists.
We will kick off the month with a birthday party for Dr. Seuss. His actual birthday is March 2. On March 1 and 2 we’ll read Green Eggs and Ham and make our very own for snack. In honor of The Foot Book we will have a Crazy sock day on March 10 and 11. Be sure to dress students in their crazy socks on these dates.
Another focus for March will be weather. Will March come in like a lion and go out like a lamb-or the other way around? We’ll talk about winter weather, spring weather, wind and rainbows. Art projects will include lions and lambs, rainbows and kites. At the end of the month we’ll look for signs of spring and make bird nests and pussy willows.
March will continue with a study of the art masters. We’ll learn about colors, line and shape as we look at and interpret the work of Piet Mondrian. We will explore the concepts of fast and slow and dark and light with Vincent Van Gogh. And works by Jackson Pollack will help us explore feelings, colors, and textures. Look for our artwork to be on display at the Gallery Night on March 13 and at the Pound Ridge Town Library at the end of the month.
We have a full roster of special programs this month. On March 4, The Nature of Things will visit us. Tricia Keane will be here for Yoga on March 11 and Jo Anne Parady will be here for special music on March 17- St. Patrick’s Day. If your child does not attend school on these days, you may always come for the class and leave at its finish, like a Mommy and Me. Please confirm times with your teachers.
Saturday, March 13 the Play School will have its annual Gallery Event featuring an exhibition of beautiful artwork created by the children, as well as candid photographs of the children on display. The event, for adults, will take place at Conant Hall (the building next to Samuel Parker’s deli) from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Come for a glass of wine courtesy of Prospero Winery and make a dinner date with friends for afterwards. Overflow parking will be at the Pound Ridge Community Church. A police officer will be on hand to help cross route 124. Any funds raised from this event go towards the Play School End-of Year program. We hope to see you there.
St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated on March 16 and 17. Please dress your children in the colors of the rainbow on these days.
Please note that class will not be held on Monday March 15 for a Staff Development Day. The Play School will also be closed March 29-April 2 for Spring Recess. Classes will resume on April 5.
Remember!
1.Label your child's belongings. Names should be put on Sippy cups, coats, sweaters, blankets and stuffed animals.
